Distinction Hotels Group Withdraws from Fox Glacier Property

The Distinction Hotels Group will assign the management agreement of Distinction Fox Glacier Te Weheka Boutique Hotel to THC Hotels & Resorts effective 1 August 2024.

The 20-room boutique property has been managed by the group since 2012. Nestled beneath the towering Southern Alps of the West Coast’s South Island of New Zealand, the property offers luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation.

The Fox Glacier property was unique in that it is not owned by the Distinction Hotels Group, unlike the majority of their other hotels.

The new management rights will be assumed by THC Hotels & Resorts with well-known hotel professional Ken Harris at the helm. Last month THC Hotels & Resorts took over the management rights of Alpine Resort Wanaka, which had also previously been managed by the Distinction Hotels Group.

CEO Duncan Fletcher said “whilst we have enjoyed a close relationship with the Te Weheka owners for over a decade and managed to deliver positive results year on year, thanks largely to the support shown by our trade partners, the time has come to streamline our business profile and invest more significantly in our ownership models. We know Te Weheka will be an ideal fit with THC Hotels & Resorts other properties in Wanaka, Queenstown & Christchurch."

The owners of Te Weheka said “we have been delighted with Distinction’s management, skill and enthusiasm over the past 12 years, nurturing the property as if it were their own. We are grateful to Distinction for introducing us to Ken Harris and his THC H&R accommodation management team. Ken has been in accommodation his entire working life and he is an equally well connected, energetic and imaginative operator with high standards, so we know we are in good hands going forward. We wish the Distinction Group all the very best as they continue to provide excellent Kiwi owned accommodation to travellers in Aotearoa.”
